Predicting protein structure using hidden Markov models.
We discuss how methods based on hidden Markov models performed in the fold-recognition section of the CASP2 experiment. Hidden Markov models were built for a representative set of just over 1,000 structures from the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Each CASP2 target sequence was scored against this library of HMMs. In addition, an HMM was built for each of the target sequences and all of the sequences ...
متن کاملTemporal Data Mining Using Hidden Markov-Local Polynomial Models
This study proposes a data mining framework to discover qualitative and quantitative patterns in discrete-valued time series (DTS). In our method, there are three levels for mining similarity and periodicity patterns. At the first level, a structuralbased search based on distance measure models is employed to find pattern structures; the second level performs a value-based search on the discove...
متن کاملProtein Structure Analysis Using Continuous Density Hidden Markov Models
Hidden Markov models [2] (HMMs) have been successfully applied to Bioinformatics such as gene finding, remote homology detection and secondary structure prediction. On the other hand, continuous density HMMs have been widely used in the field of speech recognition. Though continuous density HMMs were not applied to Bioinformatics so far, they may also be useful in Bioinformatics. Currently, we ...
متن کاملChord segmentation and recognition using EM-trained hidden markov models
Automatic extraction of content description from commercial audio recordings has a number of important applications, from indexing and retrieval through to novel musicological analyses based on very large corpora of recorded performances. Chord sequences are a description that captures much of the character of a piece in a compact form and using a modest lexicon. Chords also have the attractive...
متن کاملModelling Intonational Structure Using Hidden Markov Models
A method is introduced for using hidden Markov models (HMMs) to model intonational structure. HMMs are probabilistic and can capture the variability in structure which previous finite state network models lack. We show how intonational tunes can be modelled by separate HMMs and how HMMs can be used in a recognition system to automatically determine the tune type of an utterance.
